As some of you may know (I go on about it enough) I've always wanted to visit India - The White Tiger and Shantaram are two of the reasons why.
Well, I've finally decided to go for it and have booked a two week trip to the country in November.
So with travel in mind I thought I would review a slightly different book ... but one I think you might enjoy...
It had been on the shelf for a while and thank goodness, my holiday gave me the proper time to devour The White Tiger!
I love a good book set in India (see my views on Shantaram which is, incidentally, supposed to be Madonna's favourite book)
Anyway, The White Tiger. It's a properly decent read; funny, slightly troubling, comically immoral and yet very very believable...
Some people are brilliant at choosing their holiday books.
They'll read Captain Corelli's Mandolin while lazing on a Greek Island, Memoirs of a Geisha as they rush around Japan and take Pride and Prejudice on this bracing English holiday.
Stupidly, I pick my holiday books randomly - which might explain why I spent most of my recent three-week trek around Australia engrossed in this weighty but evocative love affair with India.
